I am using this for metal only so this may not be a fair review.The laser light to indicate the cutting line is on but I can see no line even in the dark.Cutting steel the motor seems to be a bit under powered, be it will cut, just ease up a bit.The hold down clamps work well except when cutting shorter material. then they do not reach.I am not sure if I would buy again, depends on how much a more powerfull version would cost.For wood I suspect this saw would be very good.

I have used it for steel and it worked fine. Learn ALL, and I mean ALL, the adjustments and tricks. Seems well built and works fine. Laser does not show up. The blades are expensive.

Nice saw easy to assemble. Packed securely. Cuts smoothly. Cut through wood and steel no problem, but will get the steel cutting blade. Had to make slight adjustments to the fence to square it up. What really shines is customer service. Then unit was missing a clamp. I called customer service, but it was after hours. That called me the next morning, took my information , and within one day I received the missing clamp .!

The R255SMS+ really impressed me , I bought it to mainly cut metal and able to do angles and miter and you can't do that with a regular chop saw . The multi material blade is also impressive not like a fiber chop saw blade . If one is looking to cut multiple types of material the R255SMS+ is definitely the ticket ! ! The assembly was a breeze also , took longer to get it out of the box and look at the instructions than it did to put it together.

This is a nice saw that is perfect for the limited needs of a home owner. Just don’t set you expectations too high, at this price point its not going to match up with expensive pro saws that cost twice as much or more. It seems well made but the numerous plastic parts remind you that this is not a saw for professional daily or jobsite use. I was mainly interested in metal cutting but I bought this instead of the 14” chop saw figuring it would be more versatile and having used it for wood, aluminum and steel it is a capable multi material saw. The hold down clamp is just ok, you need to set it carefully and it could be more robust but I’ve been able to use some other clamps to assist for some cuts. If you set the saw it up correctly with a square when assembling the cuts are accurate. Out of the box the fence and blade needed adjustment but were pretty easy to square up. There are a number of useful YouTube setup videos if you’re not a fan of manuals. The laser needed adjustment too but I was only able to get it correctly lined up with the first few inches of the cut. Across the entire width of the maximum cut the laser line was off but with the saw square accuracy at the start of the cut worked fine for me. Unlike some reviewers I had no problem seeing the laser line even in daylight near my open garage door. I was able to make nice clean, square, accurate cuts with minimal burrs on metal unlike the abrasive wheel cutting I’ve used in the past. The saw does throw wood and metal chips liberally but mostly to the rear, like others I’d recommend good eye protection and long sleeves when cutting steel. For around $250 this seems like a good value.
